Kathleen E. (Holden) Norton

Kathleen E. (Holden) Norton, 54, Pawtucket, died peacefully in the presence of her family on March 31, 2017.  Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Lucille E. (Whiteside) Holden.  

She graduated from Bishop Francis P. Keough Regional High School and Diman Regional School of Practical Nursing.  She was employed at The Miriam Hospital, The Providence VA Medical Center, and was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the state of Rhode Island since 1989. 

Kathy leaves her children, Grace E. Norton of Harmony, Faith E. Norton and Hope E. Norton of Farmington, ME; her mother-in-law Priscilla J. Norton of Marion, MA and former husband, James T. Norton, of Pawtucket. She was the sister of James M. Holden of Rumford, Kacey E. Richards of Harmony, and Karin E. Marchessault of North Providence. Kathy was an aunt to Joseph V. Marchessault of Pawtucket and Donald R. Marchessault of North Providence.  She leaves behind many close friends.

Kathy was an avid fan of classic rock and roll and attended many concert events throughout her life including Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, The Rolling Stones, and Tom Petty.  Locally, she enjoyed the Wild Turkey Band and Hometown Rockers. 

Kathy loved being current with local and national events and stayed up-to-date by watching a number of news outlets and by reading many publications.  In her spare time, she really enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox.

She was involved with a number of important social issues and advocacy groups including Help the Homeless RI, Occupy Providence, marriage equality, and several educational initiatives.  She had cancer four times during her life, defeated it each time, and was a proud survivor.

The family would like to thank David A. Marcoux, MD, Ara Sadaniantz, MD, the staff of Tufts Medical Center Boston, and Spaulding Hospital Cambridge for the care received and compassion extended to Kathy.

A Mass of Christian Burial to which family and friends are invited will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 11:00 AM in Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.  Burial will follow in North Marion Cemetery, County Road, Marion, MA.  Please omit flowers. Donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to Help the Homeless RI, 28 Stevens Road, Cranston, RI 02910-4245.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Friday April 7, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln.
