John Fredrick Shovar, 88, of Ashburn, Virginia (formerly of Lincoln, RI) died peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

He was born in Toledo, Ohio, August 30, 1929 to Lorin A. and Marjorie A. (Riley) Shovar. John graduated from Central Catholic High School, Toledo, Ohio.

His marriage to Beverly Shovar ended in divorce. He was married to Doris G. Shovar for 44 years.

John retired from the United States Marine Corps after 22 years of service, achieving the rank of Major. He retired from HealthTex (Rhode Island) after 20 years.

John was a member of The Chosin Few Association. He enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

John is survived by his wife, Doris G. (Ryan) Shovar, son-in-law Kenny Cordes, daughters Kathleen Wright, Teresa (Scott) Kreider, Susan (Butch) Kathan and son Edward (Sam) Shovar, his stepson, Bernard (Diane) Kelly. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert J. Shovar and his daughter, Marjorie A. Shovar Cordes.
